Working from home

Hi all,

I have started (recently) a small web services company, I'm by myself and work from my home office. Sometimes, I find it hard to get motivated in the morning with all the distractions of home or think about work A LOT after hours. I really not in a position to spend money on an office right now.

Have any of you been through this? Any advice for a new business owner?

Hi Kane and welcome to the club!

I used to work at home a lot and definitely experienced what you are describing (always at home, always at work). This was a while ago and you have a few options but one that helped me back in the day was suggested by a family member, simulate going to and leaving work. What I would do is go through my morning routine as I would have when I had a regular job then get a coffee at the local Starbucks and return to the "office".

At the end of the day I would simulate leaving work by closing everything up and going to the market, out for dinner, pick up the dry cleaning, whatever had to be done. Then I returned "home".

It seemed silly to me when it was suggested, but I tried it and it really helped.

Good luck with your new venture!
